The End!
Encourage summer reading!
Choose books from your school's summer reading list and create or copy the book jacket from each. Display the book jackets on a classroom bulletin board. On separate slips of paper, write the final sentence from each book and randomly attach the slips of paper to the same bulletin board. Title the bulletin board "The End!"
Provide each student with a worksheet listing the books displayed on the bulletin board. Ask students to guess which sentence ends each book and then write the correct sentence next to the name of each book. (You might award a prize to the student with the most correct answers.)
Another bulletin board idea: Display the poem below along with photographs of the class taken throughout the year.
I'm Glad I Was Your Teacher
I'm glad I was your teacher,
I've come to like you so.
I can't believe the end is here.
I hate to see you go.
Remember all the fun we had
In all the things we did.
But most of all remember...
You're a very special kid!
