Materials Needed

Computer access to

Invite students to explore information about, and images of, the Statue of Liberty, such as those found at Statue of Liberty Facts, News, and Information. Discuss with students the history and symbolism of the statue, the title of the statue (Liberty Enlightening the World), and the words from the poem by Emma Lazarus engraved on the statue (See Statue Of Liberty Facts.) Ask students to look at a variety of artistic renderings of the statue and talk about what concepts or emotions the artists were trying to convey.
