Subject:  Reading

Grade: 1

Lesson Objective: To listen to chapter 1 in Stink Moody in Master of Disaster and then answer questions about the book

Common Core Standard:  CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.1.1- Ask and answer questions about key details in a text.

Materials:

Starter:

Say:

  • Who has looked at stars?  Where did you do it?  (Allow the students to answer.)

Main:

Say:

  • Looking at stars at night can be so much fun.  Some of you have gone outside and laid in the grass to look at the stars.  Some of you have seen stars from the car while you were driving or from the windows of your home.
  • People have been looking at stars for a very long time.  Hundreds of years ago, people looked at the stars and saw shapes, people or animals.  They named what they were seeing. 
  • Groups of stars that look like people, animals or shapes are called constellations.  Raise your hand if you have ever seen a constellation.
  • The constellation that most people can easily see is called the Big Dipper.  There are many, many other constellations.
  • When you are looking up at the night sky, you can see stars, most of the time you can see the moon and you can sometimes see what is called shooting stars.
  • Today, you are going to be listening to a chapter in a book called Stink Moody in Master of Disaster. 
  • Stink Moody is a boy who has a lot of adventures.  The adventure we are going to be listening to is about stars.
  • After we listen to the book, I am going to give you a worksheet that has questions about Stink Moody in Master of Disaster. 
  • After you have finished doing the worksheet, we will talk about your answers.
  • Does anyone have any questions?
