Materials:

Starter:

Say:

  • Have you ever told someone about something that you learned and think is interesting?  (Allow the students to answer.)

Main:

Say:

  • Telling someone like a family member or a friend about something that you learned and think is interesting can be fun and exciting.  Learning about new things is exciting and sharing them is even better.
  • What are some ways that you can share something that you learned?  (Allow the students to answer.)
  • You can tell someone by speaking to them, you can draw a picture or you can write about it.
  • When you are talking to someone about something that you have learned, you tell them something and they can ask questions.  When you are writing or drawing a picture, you need to include as many details as you can and think about what someone might ask you.
  • You should always start by telling the person what you are going to be telling them about.  You can then add any details or interesting facts that you learned.
  • For example, if I am writing about my favorite place to go, I would write, “I love the beach.  I love listening to the waves, the smell of the ocean and the feel of the sand.”
  • Today, you are going to be writing about what football is.  You should think about how you can explain about football and the different facts that you learned about it.
  • What do you think you could write?
  • I might write, “Football is a game played with a ball and two teams.  Each team tries to score points by throwing or running with the ball.”
  • Does anyone have any questions about what to do?

Feedback:

Say:

  • Who would like to share what you wrote?  (Allow the students to share.)
