Lesson Plan
This is a nice lesson to coordinate between a middle and elementary school. Assign each middle or high-school student a "buddy" at the elementary school level. Students will visit the elementary school once each month during the school year. They will take their buddies' 1) height and 2) arm span measurements. (Note that weight data is not collected; weight can be a very sensitive issue for some students.) They collect data throughout the year. They compile, chart, and graph the results from month to month.
Adapting the Lesson
This is a great lesson for employing technology. Excel, or another data collection software package, can be used to store yearlong data and create charts. Students might employ the easy-to-use Create a Graph tool, or another graph-creation tool, to build graphs to illustrate their buddies' growth.
Assessment
Students will follow instructions and compile data correctly.Lesson Plan Source
