Lesson Plan

  • Invite students to explore the vision of schools in the future presented at the Core Learning Centers site.
  • Organize students into small groups, and assign each group an area of the school. Areas might include a learning center (classroom), a media center, an art center, a language center, a fitness center, and so on.
  • Have groups use the graph paper to design the centers according to their view of schools of the future. Ask students to consider what technology will be available and what space it will occupy, how students will learn, what they will learn, what products or projects students will create, how those products or projects will be displayed, and so on.
  • Have each group write a brief summary of its vision of the learning center on an index card.
  • Ask students to combine the center designs and index cards into a bulletin board display that demonstrates their view of a school of the future.

Assessment

Evaluate each student on his or her degree of participation in the project.
