Brief Description
Students use library or online sources to create time lines of various events that took place during the modern Olympic Games.

Students correctly explain what time lines are. Students sequence historical events in chronological order.

Materials Needed
paper; pens or pencils; computers with Internet access, printouts from the Web sites listed in the Lesson Plan, or library resources about the Olympics; PowerPoint software (optional)
Lesson Plan
Ask students to explain and give examples of time lines. Then divide the class into small groups. Distribute paper and writing materials. Tell students that they are going to create time lines about aspects of the Olympics using the following Web sites or other resources:
Variation: If you have PowerPoint access, have students create their time lines as PowerPoint presentations.
Assessment
Use the suggestions in the Timeline Project Grading Rubric to evaluate students' time lines.
