Begging, Borrowing, and Computing

Web site name: Mrs. Gallo's Class

Web site URL: http://www.myschoolonline.com/fl/gallo

Web site creator: Ana M. Gallo, Bent Tree Elementary School, Miami, Florida

"My class Web site incorporates technology with our lessons, connects the students and their working parents with our class happenings, and creates educational fun and learning for my students," Ana Gallo told Education World. "My goal is to have every child participating on the Internet even if they have no computers at home. Some use a friend or family member's computer."

When Gallo's school participated in a grant that allowed all its teachers to create their own Web sites, this third grade teacher was hooked and made "Webmastering" her new hobby! "Our site is a great avenue to link our class happenings with our working parents, provide educational learning fun for my students, and showcase all their accomplishments," she reported.

Visitors to Mrs. Gallo's Class discover seasonal activities, poems, links, and more. Gallo especially enjoys sharing New Photos of the class and current Internet projects that the students have joined. Teachers find the Reading, Science, and Social Studies activities very practical, and frequently borrow them for use in their own classrooms. The site also offers glimpses of student work, such as the Monarch Butterfly experiment and a chance to Learn About Florida.

"My students and their parents really like visiting our class Web site," said Gallo. "Many have signed our Web site guest book and left their comments for all to view. Former students from last year also still visit our site. I have connected with several teachers by means of our class Web site; two classes from Hawaii and New York have become our Postcard Pen Pals."

Gallo plans to continue expanding her site to meet student needs. "I truly enjoy working on our class Web site," she explained. "I think that technology should be incorporated into our class lessons, and the students enjoy this fun and exciting learning experience."
