In the Teacher's Corner Web site name: Cohen's Corner

Web site creator: Jon Cohen, Springville Elementary School, Mount Laurel, New Jersey

Web site URL: http://springville.mountlaurel.k12.nj.us/cohen/index.html

"As a former classroom teacher, I created Cohen's Corner in an attempt to provide online resources that I thought would be practical for technology integration and general classroom use," Jon Cohen told Education World.

The site created by Cohen, a computer teacher for grades 1-4, has grown to include samples of student work, Homework Help, and such Technology Forms as a flow chart and a computer loan memo. The site's most practical and helpful resource, however, is probably Technology Talk. Cohen's monthly newsletter, it provides hard and fast technology tips and tricks for educators.

"The pages on my site that receive the most hits are in the Teacher Resources section," reported Cohen. "I organized the educational links into four main categories; lesson plans, reference, applications, and miscellaneous. Teachers constantly contribute to the lists of links, so it has become a repository for quality, Web-based resources."

Reaction to Cohen's Corner has been positive - at least both parents and teachers! "My wife will tell you that she thinks it's a bit narcissistic -- if not cruel -- to have my caricature plastered across the homepage!" Cohen joked. He has still more plans for his growing resource.

"I would like to organize an after school club to evaluate educational Web sites," he explained. "Webmasters could nominate their sites for our award via an online form, and we could post the winners on the site. This would provide an authentic experience for the children to learn the elements of good Web design."

Cohen has a bit of advice for those who are ready to delve into Web site development. "If you would like to create a Web page or Web site, but find the task overwhelming, my advice is to start out slowly with a simple page or two. I am completely self-taught, and that's the approach I took. Web design can be addictive, so your site will evolve along with your skills."
