Etheridge, a seventh grade English teacher, wanted to create a site that would keep parents and students up to date with classroom activities, and guide them to useful and interesting information online. So she included homework assignments, journal instructions, book lists, and links to a variety of online resources. Mrs. Etheridge's Homepage also offers several pages of links to useful Web sites, including Antarctica Unit Links, Mystery Unit Links, and Links for Teachers.

"I suppose the most popular page is the Daily Activities and Assignments page," Etheridge noted. "Parents tell me it helps them monitor their children's homework, and students use it to make sure they are prepared for class. That page is also helpful when students have been absent. Even if they do not check the site at home, I can have them use the site in class to see what we did while they were out of school."

Many parents have thanked Etheridge for her Web site, but "I've been amused by a few students who have told me they don't want their parents to know that all assignments are listed!" she joked.

After maintaining a Web site for several years, Etheridge admits that she is addicted to it. "I have fun maintaining my site and tinkering with it," she stated. "I've also discovered that publishing the Web site forces me to be more organized in my own thinking about class expectations and assignments. My site is simple. I haven't included much in the way of graphics. I don't know yet if I want to add more bells and whistles. I'm more interested in making it useful for students, parents, and teachers."
