What advice would you give to a new or struggling teacher?
Relax. Take a deep breath. Take lots of deep breaths. I think it is very important to network with other teachers. Beg, borrow and steal their best ideas and learn to integrate them into your own. Also, give them your best ideas to use in their classrooms. Read, read, read. I also think it is wise to read as much literature as possible regarding teaching.
What’s the nicest thing a student or colleague has ever done to help you?
I love it when students leave me little notes in their homework folders. It makes me smile.
If you weren't a teacher, what would you be doing?
I can't even imagine not being a teacher, but if I weren't, I think I would like to be a research historian.
What is the most challenging part of teaching?
Dealing with standardized testing.
My best day in the classroom was when…
after days andn days of dealing with fractions, the students actually asked for a quiz.
Something that always gives me a good belly laugh is...
listening to some of the things that my middle school students say.
What’s your secret snack indulgence?
Cajun Trail Mix.
What TV show are you most embarrassed about loving?
"BookTV."
What was the last (non-academic) book you've read?
"A Dog's Life"
