What or who inspired you to become a teacher?
My sister inspired me to become a teacher because she is also a teacher in secondary school, and I am at the elementary level. I have 15 nephews and nieces and when I am talking to them, they are all so smart. I love children--that's why it's inspired me to teach...to share my knowledge and to mold young people as good individuals with their different attitudes and personalities.
How are things different for you now, compared to when you first started teaching?
A big difference involves seeing your students develop their self-confidence and become very independent with their work. Compared to when I started in teaching, I also feel better adjusted with them and their different characters.
What advice would you give to a new or struggling teacher?
Enjoy your job, because learning is fun. Have more patience, especially if you are teaching in the primary grades. Lastly, always be ready, because children have a lot of questions. Good luck!
My best day in the classroom was when…
Students all understood the subject I taught and everybody was eager to answer my questions.
The best compliment I ever received was...
One of the children had difficulty in reading. I always gave him extra exercises or drills before he left the classroom, and it really worked. His parents cried and said "Thank you." Then the next day some parents approached me to ask if I could do tutorials after my class.
What's your favorite part of the school year?
The month of October on Sports Day. You can see the students' different talents.
What is your one must-have item for the classroom?
Lesson plans with audiovisual equipment.
What do you eat for breakfast on school days?
Oats and yogurt
What movie or TV show do you secretly love?
National Geography
