Make homework more meaningful and enjoyable for students by involving their parents. Give them an assignment -- such as a craft project, interview, or opinion survey -- that invites the input of an adult. If you choose, include on the assignment page a line for the signature of a parent to show that the work was a collaborative effort.
Like you, parents are very busy people. When giving an assignment that will involve a parent, it is wise to allow extra time for that assignment to be completed. It is also a good idea limit the number of assignments of this nature to no more than one per week.
Education World has created a series of activities that might be used to involve parents and student together as they do at-home assignments. Be sure to take a look at our Backpack-tivities.
