Materials:

Starter:

Say:

  • Do you ever imagine what animal you would be if you could be any animal?  (Allow the students to answer.)

Main:

Say:

  • Many people imagine what animal they would be if they could be an animal.  There are many different reasons that people choose a certain animal.  Some people want to be able to fly or some want to be able to run fast.
  • We have talked about how different animals have different types of homes.  Remember, some live in nests in trees, some live in colonies or burrows in the ground and some live in dens or caves that they dig out or find.
  • You are going to be writing a story about what type of home you would build if you were an animal.  You are going to describe what animal you are, what home you will build and how you would build it.
  • When you are writing stories, it is important to use as many descriptive words as you can.  You want the reader to be able to picture in their head what you are writing about.
  • You should use what you have learned about how animals build homes to help you describe how you are building your home.
  • You should be very creative when describing what animal you are and how you build a home as that animal.
  • Also, remember to describe how you are feeling as everything is happening to you.  Think about how you would feel as an animal working hard to build your home.
  • Does anyone have any questions?

Feedback:

Say:

  • Who would like to share the story that you wrote?  (Allow the students to share.)
