Activating Strategy: Carousel Brainstorming, students will rotate around the classroom in small groups, stopping at various stations for a designated amount of time.  While at each station, students will activate their prior knowledge of exclamatory sentences, adjectives, transition word/phrases, appositives, and onomatopoeia.  After each group has been to each station review each of the stations as a whole group.

Teaching Strategy: Hand out comic strip with requirements (comic strip for day 3)

  • Review the steps to writing a comic strip (1) Examine the pictures, 2) Think of some situations that could be taking place, 3) Name your characters). Discuss the requirements for the comic; give examples and reminders of what each of the requirements. Give students a highlighter so they can highlight each of the requirements within their comic

Summarizing Strategy: Have students hang up their comics from today and previous days.  Allow students to do a gallery walk to read other students work. Give students sticky notes so they can write positive feedback and stick it to others work
