Essential Question: How can writing comics strengthen my writing conventions

Activating Strategy: Show comic of the day, allow students (alone, with partner or in small groups) to create a list of different conventions of writing that they observe in the comic strip

Teaching Strategy: As a whole group allow students to share the writing elements observed

  • Add any elements that they may have missed that may be of importance to your class
  • Talk about the 4 steps in creating a comic strip; work through each of the steps
  • Allow students to work with a partner to create a transcript for the comic strip

Summarizing Strategy: Have students “act” out their comic strip with writing partner and have listeners share one writing convention they heard within their classmates comic

*Comic strip can be displayed using active inspire or powerpoint or printed off *
