Materials:

Starter:

Say:

  • What are some ways that you can tell someone about something that you have learned?  (Allow the students to answer.)

Main:

Say:

  • There are many different ways that you can share what you have learned.  You can talk to someone about what you’ve learned, you can draw pictures to show what you’ve learned or you can write about what you’ve learned.
  • Talking to someone and writing about what you’ve learned are similar.  You always start by explaining what you are talking about.
  • What do you do after you explain what you are talking about?  (Allow the students to answer.)
  • You should give some details about what you have learned.  Many times, when you are speaking with someone, they ask questions that you can answer with details.
  • When you are writing, you should try to think about details that someone might want to know.
  • For example, if I am writing about my favorite food, I would write, “I love ice cream.  I love that it is cold and you can put many toppings on it.”
  • Today, you are going to be writing about what a harvest is.  You should think about how you can explain a harvest to someone who doesn’t know.
  • What do you think you could write?
  • I might write, “A harvest is when a farmer picks food.  Fruits and vegetables get picked.”
  • Does anyone have any questions about what to do?

Feedback:

Say:

  • Who would like to share what you wrote?  (Allow the students to share.)
