  • Planting plants can be a lot of fun.  There are many different types of plants.  There are bushes, different types of flowers, fruit and vegetable plants.
  • We have learned that farmers plant vegetables in big fields and then harvest or pick them when they are ready.
  • Some of you have planted plants before.  Raise your hand if you have a vegetable garden.
  • Some homes have yards that are big enough for a vegetable garden, but some do not.  If you live in a home that does not have a yard, you can always plant vegetables in containers or big flower pots.
  • What do you think you need to plant vegetables?  (Allow the students to answer.)
  • To plant vegetables, you need soil, a container and some water.  You need to fill the container with soil and get it wet.  It should feel a little muddy.
  • Then, you make a hole with your hand and carefully place the plant in it.
  • What do you think you should do with a plant after you plant it?  (Allow the students to answer.)
  • After you plant a plant, you need to make sure that it is in a place where the sun can shine on it.  You also need to make sure that it has enough water.  Sometimes it rains and then you do not need to water your plant.  When it doesn’t rain, you need to make sure you water it so that I can keep growing.
  • Once your vegetable plant starts to grow vegetables, you can pick then and eat them!
