  • Have you ever pretended to be someone else?  What was that like?  (Allow the students to answer.)

Main:

Say:

  • Pretending to be someone else can be a lot of fun.
  • When you are pretending to be someone else, it is important that you know a lot about that person or thing so that when you pretend, other people believe that you are not you.
  • If you were going to pretend to be another person, what type of things would you want to know about them?  (Allow the students to answer)
  • You would want to know some of the things that they like (food, color, music), how they speak, the types of phrases that they say, who they are friends with and what they do with them and what their family is like.  All of those things would help you to be able to pretend to be that person.
  • If you were going to pretend to be an animal, what type of things would you want to know about them?  (Allow the students to answer)
  • You would want to know the type of food that they eat, what they do during the day, where they sleep, who they spend time with and what they do in different seasons.
  • When you are writing, it is important too remember to use as many details as you can.  Think about what you would want to know if you were reading a story.
  • You are now going to pretend that you are an animal that hibernates.  You are going to write a story explaining how you get ready to hibernate.  Remember, animals that hibernate spend a lot of time in the summer and fall getting ready.
  • Does anyone have any questions?

Feedback:

Say:

  • Who would like to share the story that you wrote?  (Allow the students to share.)
