Six Resources for Remembering Pearl Harbor

December 7 marks the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, and teachers will anticipate educating their students on the event and what followed. 

Education World has gathered a list of resources, lesson plans, videos, and more that teachers can use in the classroom to inform students about the the attack on Pearl Harbor.

 

  1. Pearl Harbor Lesson:  In this lesson plan provided by Discovery Education, students will: Research the events that took place at Pearl Harbor; Write an in-depth article as though they experienced those events firsthand; Discuss what lessons can be learned from Pearl Harbor.. 
  2. Attack on Pearl Harbor: This CNN video follows a speech by President Franklin D. Roosevelt declaring war on Japan following the events in Hawaii.
  3. ReadWriteThink: In this writing activity, students are asked to compare Pearl Harbor to September 11, "looking at how they are the same and how they are different with a Venn diagram.
  4. The Date that Lives in Infamy: The U.S. Navy Museum offers a list of four lesson plans that teachers can bring to their classroom:
