Lesson Plan
Briefly teach or review the five regions of the United States and the states in those regions. You might have students explore the Five U.S. Regions online as well.
Provide each student with a printed blank BINGO card. Have students label each column on their BINGO cards with one of the five U.S. regions. Then, in each square in the columns, have them write the name of, or draw an outline of, a different state in that region. Put the names of all 50 states in a bag and draw state names until a student gets BINGO.
Extension Activity: Invite students to map your school region: Create a town or district map that shows the areas where students live. Encourage each student to add a pin to the map to indicate the location of his or her home. Talk about the conclusions students can draw from the map: Do more students live in one region of the town or district than in others? Why might that be true? What characteristics distinguish each region? Which areas of the region are residential? commercial? Which areas have the most traffic?...
Assessment
Assess students based on the accuracy of the information on their BINGO cards and their participation in the activity.
