Lesson Plan
Brainstorm 25 to 30 words that deal with books or reading and write those words on the chalkboard. Provide each student with a piece of 9" x 12" newsprint. Have students fold the paper into nine squares, and write nine of the words from the chalkboard -- one word in each square -- on their paper. Provide stickers or candy corn to use as markers. Randomly call out words from the chalkboard. When a student fills in a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal row, he or she should call out "BOOKS!" You might award a bookmark -- or a paperback book -- to the winner(s).
For older students, you might want to brainstorm 40-50 words and use the editable BINGO card on the Education World Teacher Templates page. Students can work with that BINGO card either online or in print format. When playing with older or more capable students, you also might read the definition of each word rather than the words themselves.
Assessment
Assess students based on their participation in the game.
