A new school supply brand has launched with a mission of helping students in need.
The product line, called Yoobi, will be sold exclusively at Target. For every Yoobi item purchased, Yoobi contributes a Yoobi item to a classroom in need, right here in the U.S. By 2015, Yoobi aims to impact more than 30,000 classrooms nationwide, changing the lives of over 750,000 kids.
Yoobi sells basic supplies like pens, journals and erasers in bold colors. The company offers more than 80 different items available in a vibrant color palette of blue, green, pink and purple, all under $10.
"With Yoobi, our goal is to make school supplies phenomenal, while solving an important problem along the way: providing fundamental access to those in need," said co-founder Ido Leffler. "We want to provide tools that engage kids and make them eager to learn, while also instilling the values of community and giving back. I'm proud of our goal, but I know it's just the beginning of what we can accomplish."
A lack of access to school supplies is a fundamental issue for students and teachers nationwide. Ninety-two percent of teachers purchase classroom supplies out of their own pockets, spending almost $500 on average, and totaling a staggering $1.6 billion a year. To combat the issue, for every Yoobi item purchased, Yoobi will contribute an item to a Classroom Pack, which contains essential school supplies.
Together with the Kids in Need Foundation, a national nonprofit, Yoobi identified U.S. schools with students who have the greatest need for school supplies to receive the Classroom Packs. Yoobi will initially focus on distributing Classroom Packs to the youngest students, K-3rd grade classrooms, because ensuring access to supplies at an early age has the most impact on academic potential.
