What or who inspired you to become a teacher?

My first-grade teacher, Mrs. Forsythe.

How are things different for you now, compared to when you first started teaching?

I have a deeper understanding of the different components of reading and how to teach them to students in ways that they can apply every day.

What advice would you give to a new or struggling teacher?

Believe in yourself, and always keep looking for new ways to improve what you do every year.

My best day in the classroom was when…

...one of my students reached a goal that had been in the works for a long time and stated "I like math, now that I can do it." 

The best compliment I ever received was...

That I make learning fun by including projects and full-day theme events.

What's your favorite part of the school year?

Colonial School Day. Students and I dress up and they rotate through Colonial School Station, craft and game stations. We end the day with a formal Colonial Tea.

What is your one must-have item for the classroom?

My computer

What do you eat for breakfast on school days?

Cereal

What movie or TV show do you secretly love?

"Little House on the Prairie"
