Lesson Plan: Life Cycle

Subject:  Reading

Grade: 2

Lesson Objective: To read the story, The Frog Prince, and then answer questions about the story

Common Core Standard:  CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.1- Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.

Materials:

Starter:

Say:

  • What do you know about frogs?  (Allow the students to answer.)

Main:

Say:

  • Today we are going to be talking about frogs and their life cycle.  First, I am going to read the story, The Frog Prince.
  • The Frog Prince is a fairytale.  A fairytale is a children’s story about magical or imaginary living things and places.  Raise your hand if you have read or heard a fairytale.  What fairytales do you like the best?  (Allow the students to answer)
  • While I am reading The Frog Prince to you, I would like you to be thinking about who the characters are, what they are doing, where the story takes place, why the characters are behaving the way that they are and how the problem is solved.
  • (Read the story to the students)
  • Does anyone have any questions about the story?  Is there anything that you do not understand?  (Allow the students to ask questions and answer to the best of your ability)
  • I am going to give you a worksheet that has questions about The Frog Prince.  If you have questions about any part of the story, please raise your hand and I can reread you the party.
  • After you have finished doing the worksheet, we will talk about your answers.
  • Does anyone have any questions?
