September 16th is an importent day for the people of Mexico.  This is their Independence Day.  Spain conquered mexico in 1500 and ruled it for over 300 years.  On september 16 1810, a priest named Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla started a revolt against Spain.  The Mexicans won in 1821 and every year, they celebrate their fredom.  People celebrate with food, music and fireworks.  People decorate there homes and vehicles with Mexican flags.  There is no work or school so that everyone can celebrate together.  Mexicans all over the world celebrate Mexican Independence Day.
