"what walks down stairs, alone or in pears, and makes a slinkety sound." The Slinky has been a favorite toy since it's introduction on November 26 1945. Engineer Richard James was performing an experiment with tension springs when one fall to the ground and begun to "walk." That gave James' an idea! His wife, Betty came up with the perfect name for the new invention. Since than more than 300 million Slinky toys have been sold.
