15-Minute Color-Word Lesson

Goal: Students will recognize and say common color words.

Materials: A word-search puzzle containing color words, pencils/crayons.

1. Warm-up — 3 minutes

  • Show or name colors one at a time.

  • Students repeat: “red,” “blue,” “green,” etc.

  • Ask: “What color is this?”

2. Word Search — 7 minutes

  • Give students the color-word search.

  • Tell them to find and circle each color word.

  • As students find words, have them say the word aloud.

  • For an extra challenge, students can color each word using the matching color.

3. Quick Practice — 3 minutes

  • Call out a color.

  • Students point to that word in their puzzle.

  • Then reverse it: point to a word and ask students to say the color.

4. Exit Check — 2 minutes
Ask each student to name three colors they learned.

Tip: When you give ChatGPT a word list, ask it to create several activities using the same words—that way, students practice the vocabulary through speaking, reading, and writing rather than simply memorizing the list.
