Materials Needed
Two hockey-sized nets, two 8'x4' mats, up to 2 dozen 4"-8" diameter foam balls.
Lesson Plan
- Arrange students in two teams and have each team line up on one side of a court. Explain that the centerline can never be crossed.
- Set up a hockey net 15-20 feet from each side of the centerline. Place a mat in front of each net. The mat represents the goalie's area. The goalie is the only person allowed on the mat.
- The object of the game is to throw balls at your opponents. Any player hit by a ball must sit on the sidelines. All sidelined students can rejoin the game if one of their teammates throws a ball into the opponents' net.
- The game ends when an entire team is sidelined.
Assessment
Observation of students' ability to aim, throw, and dodge, as well as their ability to work as a team.
