"Being home-schooled, people look at you different," one student said. "[But] the more I talked to [other players], the more they realized there was nothing different about me. They were really accepting and really nice."
"I flipped through it and saw sections that mentioned bondage with ropes and handcuffs," said one parent. "Not only does it have material that is too explicit and inappropriate, it doesn't meet [students'] need for their ages."
"We want you to know us," the students said. "We aren't afraid... This neighborhood is filled with love. This isn't Chi-raq. This is home. This is us."
Students are preparing to maintain a protected classroom Twitter account. "It's cool that you can just click on the hashtag and it takes you straight to the conversation," said 9-year-old Madison Nally.
Forty-four percent were verbal incidents and 21 percent were physical. Other types of incidents included written or electronic threats and social shunning at the lunch table or elsewhere.
One parent said she might need to buy a graphing calculator instead of paying the electric bill. "I try to pay the most important things first...but when it comes to going back to school, things kind of go downhill."

Jon Everhart said he faced years of racial harassment from the Largo High School principal, who repeatedly told staff and students that she planned to fire him.
"Until preschool, life has centered on home, parents or familiar caretakers," the article said. "Then, bam! Young children have to negotiate interactions with strange teachers and other kids."
At the end of the video, the message reads: "Your child's future doesn't have to look like this. There's still time to reverse the unhealthy habits our kids take into adulthood."
