Legal Issues for Teachers
And Free and Inexpensive Materials

"Your lesson planning area is the primary reason that I am a daily visitor to Education World.

"I would like to see a 'Legal Issues for Teachers' section added to the School Issues area.

"A frequently updated section of free and inexpensive materials for educators would be very beneficial as well."

Dear Kathy,

Thanks a million for appreciating our lessons. Our Lesson Planning section is, by far, the most heavily traveled section on our site. We're very fortunate that you -- and millions of others -- have found this goldmine of teaching ideas.

The suggestions you offer are both superb ideas! In fact, we've often talked about listing things that are available for free. At one point we even did more than that. We started collecting freebies so we could debut just such a feature on EdWorld. (We wanted to be able to see, touch, and review the freebies before recommending them to our readers.) We must have discovered that doing this required more legwork and time investment than we imagined, because that feature never made it online. But it is an idea that we must revisit. We will talk about it this May when we sit down to plan new features for back-to-school time.

Ditto to your idea of a "Legal Issues" section. It's an excellent idea -- another idea we will review this May.

Keep on visiting and both of these features could very well make it onto our "gotta do" list for 2004-2005!

Since you brought up freebies, we can't let this opportunity pass to add one more thing… "Everything we have on EdWorld is already free and available to you at the click of a mouse button!" While most all of you are aware of this fact, do you ever wonder how we can offer all these resources for free when so many other teacher Web sites have transitioned to pay-for status? EdWorld remains free because there are advertisers who want to reach you! They pay good money to advertise on our site, and it is those ads that pay the bills and our editorial team's salaries. Without our advertisers, we would be charging you; or we might not be here at all. So… when you see an advertisement that interests you in any way, click on it! You will make our advertisers happy, and you will be enabling us to provide free practical resources that allow you to spend less time planning great lessons and more time doing other things you enjoy.
