Nobody's perfect, and neither is the standard setup of any operating system. Windows XP is no exception. Luckily, you can find plenty of ways to tweak the defaults in Windows and make the operating system work for you. Try some of the customizing tips below.

Your Computer -- Your Style!

Do you need still more ways to make your computer look and behave exactly the way you want it to? Check out Microsoft's How to Use Windows XP.

Southpaws?
Make your mouse meet your needs.

Left-handed? Switch your mouse buttons: Go to Start>Control Panel>Mouse (or My Computer>Control Panel>Printers and Other Hardware>Mouse) and select the Button tab. Make the desired changes and then click OK.

Sneaky Students?
Secure your Start bar!

Do students move the Start bar around on your PCs? Lock it down: Right-click an unused section of the Start toolbar and select "Lock the Taskbar." Because all open and minimized windows will be visible in a locked Start bar, that action also prevents students from hiding programs they've opened without permission.

A Lot to See?
Show all open windows at once.

Do you want to see several program windows at the same time? Right-click the menu bar next to Start, and select Tile Windows Horizontally or Tile Windows Vertically. To undo the action, select Cascade Windows.
