Tech in the Classroom: GlogsterEDU

What is it?  Glogster is a social networking site based on the creation and sharing of Glogs, which are posters loaded with text, graphics, music and videos. The site's goal is providing an outlet for creativity and expression, similar to Tumblr and other photo-based blog sites. GlogsterEDU, launched in 2009, is a collaborative and dynamic digital tool designed for the classroom.

glogstereduHow does it work?  Monitored by teachers, middle- and high-school students can access this tool to learn diverse subjects such as math, science, history, art, photography, music and more.

GlogsterEDU provides "digital paper" where users can mix text, photos, audio, graphics and data. Students have portrait and landscape options, editing tools and drag-and-drop features.

How hard is it to use?  Because there is no tutorial or text that explains the icons and how to start, there may be a bit of a learning curve. Students, however, have seen these types of drag-and-drop tools before. After practicing a little, teachers will be ready to introduce the platform in class.

How well does it work?  The user-friendly site lets kids quickly create interactive and visually pleasing pages and glogs. The templates offer room for creativity, and finished pages look like well-organized posters.

How do I use it in the classroom?  Use GlogsterEDU for teaching mathematics, science, social studies, art and more. For those who learn visually, this is a great tool. It can also be used for group projects, presentations and book reports. The platform enhances basic tech skills and gives students and teachers the opportunity to create something unique.
