Site URL: Science20.com
Content: Science 2.0 was created in 2006 to modernize science communication, publishing, collaboration and public participation.
Design: This site isn’t much to look at. In fact, its harsh black fonts, haphazardly splashed over stark white pages, can be downright grating on the eyes. While the goal of Science 2.0 isn’t to dazzle the senses, the site could do a little more to make its excellent content a bit more attractive.
Review: Here, world-class scientists write articles and discuss issues without being filtered by editorial limitations, or by political or cultural agendas. This allows the audience to read great science pieces directly from the sources.
Unlike some academic journals, Science 2.0 embraces a true open publishing model, where readers do not have to pay to read and scientists do not have to pay to publish. This fosters an academic environment where new content is added regularly.
Some of the articles here may be beyond even the most advanced high school students. But there also is plenty on which even middle-schoolers can chew. Science 2.0 is more of an academic journal than a straight resource site, so although teachers won’t find a ton of classroom activities, they can keep abreast of the latest from the science world.
Bottom Line: To stay on top of the latest scientific research and breakthroughs, make sure to stop by Science 2.0.
