Site Review: MindMixer

history educationSite URL: MindMixer.com

Content: This Web 2.0 tool allows schools to actively seek and receive feedback from students and parents.

Design: MindMixer follows the current trend of minimalist-chic. The site’s very basic color scheme results in a platform that is pleasing to the eye without being distracting.

The site structure is simple enough. Controls and links take a little bit of getting used to, but are largely intuitive.

MindMixerReview: MindMixer was originally conceived as a tool for idea generation. Someone would post an idea and others would comment on it, providing the feedback required to move the original idea forward. That platform has expanded to incorporate everything from instant polls to incentives and prizes.

Administrators can use the platform to collect instant opinions on nearly any aspect of their schools. An issue as small as a change to the lunch menu or as important as a budget cut can be posted to the site, and parents can provide their thoughts. Users must register before weighing in, which helps prevent abusive or inappropriate commenting.

In a world dominated by public opinion, schools can use MindMixer to gauge that opinion before taking an action. Because idea generators can reply to comments posted by the community, MindMixer also serves as an effective communication tool. Parents and other community members can openly converse with school officials via the platform.

Bottom Line: MindMixer helps educators efficiently gather insights from the school community.
