iPad App Review: Sushi Monster

App name:  Sushi Monster

Cost:  Free

What does it promise?  Sushi Monster, a game from Scholastic, promises users the ability to practice, reinforce and extend math-fact fluency. Students can strengthen their reasoning strategies for whole-number addition and multiplication. The goal is to help the monsters make a target sum or product.

Does it deliver?  Sushi Monster offers 12 sequenced levels to serve all ages. Reviews describe the experience as one of playing an interactive game, rather than memorizing math facts.

Can I use it in my classroom?  Absolutely. It also would be wise to encourage students to use this app outside the classroom. Math can be a difficult subject, and a game like Sushi Monster offers a fun, interactive way for students to brush up on their skills.
