What does it promise? The TED app promises access to “riveting” talks by some of the “most remarkable people in the world.” For free, users can scroll through a library of more than 1,400 TEDTalk videos on a variety of topics, with a choice of subtitles in over 90 languages. The app’s makers update almost every day with new talks from TED events around the world. A user can hear talks from “education radicals, tech geniuses, medical mavericks, business gurus and music legends,” among many others.
Does it deliver? Users can watch TedTalks on multiple devices and can even hook up to a home entertainment system for crowd viewing. Those with accounts can create their own playlists and download full videos to watch them offline. Reviewers have called the Ted Talks app “extraordinary,” “informative” and “inspirational.”
Can I use it in my classroom? TED is perfect for the classroom. Teachers can use a projection device or SMART Board to show students informational talks on any subject. Technology plays a prominent role in schools, and this app offers a great opportunity to engage students.
