Older iOS Devices Get Legacy Apps

App StoreThe release of Apple's latest mobile operating system is leaving owners of older devices behind, but a Cupertino policy for these devices means that they will not be rendered "obsolete."

iOS 7 is a huge departure from the previous verisons of the operating system. As such, only the most recent devices posess the hardware to utilize it. That means only the iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad Mini and fifth-generation iPod Touch are capable of the upgrade.

However, owners of older devices will still be able to purchase and use apps, thanks to Apple's change in policy. Previously, users would get a message informing them that the app they're trying to download was not supported by their device. Now, they recieve a similar message and a link to the "last compatible version" of the app.

As with all things technological, eventually the older devices will no longer support the most current software. Apple's new policy allows schools to get a little more use before having to upgrade.

The lotus flower has been a symbol in Buddhism tradition as well as Hinduism and Egyptian culture.  For example, Buddhists have come to associate the flower with beauty and purity and as a symbol of spiritual awakening. The flower is certainly unique. Growing in murky ponds, the lotus rises above the water and mud in all its colorful glory.

3 Reusable Student-Focused Classroom...

As a teacher, I’m always looking for structures I can use in my class that are reusable--activities that can be used for multiple units. Here are a few of my favorites.

  1. Index card swap: I give each student an index card at the beginning of class. I give them time to write down one question for class discussion. I ask them to make sure the question is one that fosters discussion, has...

Do you love chocolate? If you do, you may want to hide a few bars away for a future date. Seems that chocolate may be running out and, in the not so distant future.

Researchers say that chocolate, which comes from cacao beans, may be a thing of the past in less than 40 years! The reason, the warming of our planet is making for less and less places for the bean to thrive. Additionally, the demand for chocolate is growing, especially in places such as China where...

As a teacher, I tried to change my classroom at the beginning of each year and sometimes...

Differentiation Can Work…If We Train...

In recent years, educational experts have debated the concept of differentiation—that is varying/altering curriculum, content, and teaching methods to meet the individualized needs of students.

Let me join this conversation by saying that first, I believe differentiation can work to various degrees but requires much training and knowledge. Like education, it is inherently flawed and poses many challenges. I agree with Dr. Jim Delisle when he points out the incredible challenge of...

“Inner Calm” for the Classroom and...

Teaching is a very stressful profession. I have personally experienced the demands of being a teacher and observed colleagues also deal with the stressors of the job, ranging from high-stakes testing, demanding parents, increased paperwork, disrespectful students, increased diversity and differentiated learning needs, and lack of creativity and autonomy.

As a teacher educator, who works with student teachers, I believe that serving in a practicum setting where student teachers gain...
