iPad App Review: LearnAnything

Share

App Name: LearnAnything

Cost:  $3.99

What does it promise? Designed in collaboration with a leading UK education expert, Learn Anything claims to make learning easy, fun and effective by using the memory techniques handed down to us through the generations, adapted to modern mobile technology. The app’s creators say that the learning techniques used are time-tested and have been proven effective for thousands of years.

Does it deliver? Yes, if the user puts in the necessary work. The method of starting with small chunks of information, then gradually looping longer and longer sections of material on a particular subject, is not new. You’ll be amazed at how fast you can learn even very long texts or lists that you previously thought impossible to memorize. By doing so, you’re not only learning by heart, but also improving your memory. The central memorization technique used by Learn Anything is known as "spiral learning" and has been used for thousands of years to pass on knowledge as part of oral traditions such as storytelling and music.

To start creating your own learning loops, just record whatever you want to learn into the iPhone or iPad microphone, then add optional text/images to create your own personal multimedia learning experience.

Can I use it in my classroom? Because the app is not limited by a static number of topics, teachers can use it for nearly any lesson that requires memorization. Simply speak the topic into the mic, and off you go. .

All apps can be found in the iPad apps store under education.
