iPad App Review: Classroom Dojo

App Name: Classroom Dojo

Cost: Free

What does it promise?  This app helps teachers improve behavior in their classrooms quickly and easily. It also captures and generates data on behavior that teachers can then share with parents and administrators.

classroomo dojoDoes it deliver? Through Classroom Dojo, teachers can award feedback points for good classroom behavior in real time, with just one click. This actually improves behavior, because the students see it as a reward.

As teachers use the app over time, they automatically compile behavioral data. The app then provides behavior-tracking analytics and reports that can be shared with parents and administrators, all with just a single click. No data entry is needed.

While Classroom Dojo is designed specifically for mobile devices, that doesn’t mean teachers can’t use it on other machines. In fact, the app can run on an interactive whiteboard, a computer connected to a projector, or even a smartphone or tablet. The only thing users really need is some kind of computer device in the classroom (just one, for the teacher, is enough) and an Internet connection.

In the age of transparency, a great new feature is the ability to allow parents access to their child’s in-app data. Parents can now view students’ progress via the Classroom Dojo app, simply by asking their child’s teacher for an email invite or parent code.

Can I use it in my classroom?  Classroom Dojo is the perfect complement to any elementary classroom with a focus on encouraging positive student behavior.

All apps can be found in the iPad apps store under education.
