According to the results of a newly released survey from McGraw-Hill Education, the majority of K-12 parents are supportive of adaptive digital learning and personalized learning in the classroom made possible by advanced technology.
McGraw-Hill Education "commissioned TNS, a global research firm, to survey more than 2,500 adults in the United States between August 13 and 16, 2015. The survey asked people about their opinions and perceptions of educational technology, particularly personalized and adaptive learning technology," according to THEJournal.com.
Defining adaptive learning technology as technology that "actively tailors learning to the individual and acts as a tutor for the student," the survey found that most parents overwhelmingly support such measures and believe that all classrooms should support the movement towards digital learning.
Most parents even are in support of putting more traditional learning tools, like "old school" textbooks on the back burner, too.
"91 percent of parents of K-12 students surveyed said they welcome the introduction of a more personalized digital experience as an alternative to traditional textbooks," according to the article.
The survey supports many expert opinions that the era of the traditional textbook is coming to an end as learning becomes more and more a digital experience.
The big factor that earned support from parents of adaptive learning technology was the personalization behind the tools; "87 percent of K-12 parents who responded said they think classroom lessons should be personalized to meet each individual student's needs."
The survey happens to be good news for education companies like McGraw-Hill, which develops and sells a variety of adaptive learning technology.
