Ten Common Core Tech Resources

Common Core State Standards have been adopted by 45 states as well as the District of Columbia. The standards seek to bring diverse state curricula into alignment with one another. For some teachers and students, understanding and implementing Common Core into the curriculum may be difficult. Luckily there are plenty of websites and other resources that help teachers and students better understand the standards and how to use them in the classroom. Here are 10 Common Core State Standards resources for teachers and students to use in and out of the classroom:

  1. Achievethecore.org: This website is filled with free content designed to help educators understand and implement the Common Core State Standards. Achieve the Core includes practical tools and hundreds of math and literacy resources such as writing samples, lessons, assessments, and more. The site also provides leadership tools for those who wish to be advocates for Common Core, such as PowerPoints, videos, and hands-on activities.
  2. Common Core State Standards Initiative: With this website, teachers and parents are able to learn about the Common Core and explore its development process, read about the English and math standards, and more. The site also offers a video, "Learn about the Common Core in 3 Minutes", key shifts in mathematics and English, and answers to frequently asked questions. 
  3. Common Core 360: Under Evidation's School Improvement Network, Common Core 360 offers over 400 videos, over 200 lesson plans, and the opportunity to share Common Core implementation ideas with hundreds of thousands of educators across the country. The site offers detailed guidelines by searching for individual Common Core standards by grade and subject. 
  4. Teaching Channel: With Teaching Channel, teachers can view and learn from almost 200 videos featuring real-world educators giving tips and advice about implementing Common Core in the classroom. Videos include strengthening lessons for Common Core, essay structures, complex texts and more. 
  5. All Things Common Core: With this website, teachers have access to hundreds of activities, information, advice, tips, lessons and other resources covering all things Common Core. The site also has blogs written by educators looking at different issues with Common Core as well as professional development opportunities for teachers.

  1. Common Core Standards: This app offers great resources and references to students, parents, and teachers to read and understand the standards. Users can quickly find subjects by grade, subject, or subject category. Common Core Standards includes math standards K-12 and Language Arts standards K-12. 
  2. Common Core Lesson Planner: With this app, teachers can select the standards they are teaching and assess each individual student by pressing "red", "yellow", "green" and "blue" for "minimal", "basic". "proficient" and "advanced". Teachers can also view standards, print plans, and more. 
  3. ScootPad: For teachers struggling with finding Common Core activities, Scoot Pad offers a learning platform for grades K-5 in math, reading, spelling and writing. Teachers can assign homework assignments and review them on the app. 
  4. iTooch Elementary School: This app offers 18,000 exercises alligned with the Common Core State Standards for math, language arts, and science for grades 1-5. Here students can play individually, or in groups and learn while having fun. 
  5. Common Core Tracker: With Common Core Tracker, teachers can look for Common Core State Standards for reference and aligment with assignments. They can also keep track of tests, quizzes, assignments alligned with Common Core. There are also options for tracking student progress with graphs and more.
