Six Activties to Celebrate Mad Hatter Day

October 6 is National Mad Hatter Day, where people are encouraged to celebrate the wacky, crazy character from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures In Wonderland. The Mad Hatter's most famous symbol is his oversized hat, which reads "In this style 10/6."

EducationWorld has curated a list of six activities teachers can bring to their classrooms to celebrate Mad Hatter Day. With crafts, activities, stories, poems, and videos, students can be creative while remembering the children story world's most famous character. 

  1. Have a Mad Hatter Tea Party: Mad Hatter and the Hare love tea parties, in fact, it's all they really do. Celebrate the Mad Hatter by having a class tea party with the works. Provided by Home School With Love, teachers can set up their classroom with table cloths, tea, bread and butter, and more. The site also offers a Mad Hatter watch printable where students can write in their time. 
  2. A Very Merry Unbirthday To You: Students can be introduced to the Mad Hatter through the Disney film and the memorable song. 

  1. Read "A Mad Tea Party": Read students the short story, "A Mad Tea Party" which follows the story when Alice meets the Mad Hatter and the Hare. Teachers can ask students questions provided by Home School with Love. 
  2. Make Paper Top Hats: Students can make their own signature Mad Hatter top hats with this template provided by Children's Art. With cardstock, newspaper, and decorated paper, students can make their own decorated and fun hat. 
  3. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll: Read the original story written by Lewis Carroll, or at least the chapters with the Mad Hatter during a craft or activity on Mad Hatter Day.
