Question:

How is the Department of Education helping states and school systems implement the technology requirements in the No Child Left Behind Act?

U.S. Department of Education:

The U.S. Department of Education and the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA), have released the National Leadership Institute Toolkit: States Helping States Implement NCLB, which is designed to assist states with the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act's technology requirements.

The toolkit includes resources and best practices on topics including 1) scientifically based research; 2) technology literacy assessment; 3) common data elements; 4) effective teaching using technology; and 5) the national education technology plan.

State educational technology directors identified the topics as their areas of greatest concern.

The toolkit evolved from discussions at the SETDA National Leadership Institute, a national summit held in December 2002, at which state leaders worked with research experts and Department of Education staff to explore implementation strategies related to the NCLB's technology elements.

The toolkit is available for review at the National Leadership Institute Toolkit.
