Enrichment: From Excellence to Eminence

  • Moving any individual, organization, or society from excellence to eminence is no job for ordinary people; it takes a teacher! To succeed in this noblest of visions, the wise teacher uses a potpourriof skills:
  • 1. The strength of Atlas to move those who choose to live in the mythologies of the past as "the good ole days". " This new idea is an old idea in new pedagogy; it didn't work then and it won't work now." Let the teach models the endless toil enveloping the work.
  • 2. The patience of Job to listen to the myriad of voices and still hear the truth of what gives us guiding light. "You can't possibly expect us to get all of this done and teach classes; I am too busy for this nonsense! These kids can't succeed and I am unsure why we waste so many resources on them anyway!" Yet, teachers move on to model by example. William Safire in his text, The First Dissident gives us a glimpseof why Job is a model teacher in his dissidence from the norm to fulfill the word of God.
  • 3. The wisdom of Sojourner Truth to speak out against the evils of any injustice facing our students! "These kids can't go to college; they are simply unfit to learn." Never giving into fear, teachers face the angry mob, sing the truth, and calm the people by never believing that fearing people is indeed a dangerous trap in leadership of any kind.
  • 4. The negotiating skills of Henry Kissingerto insist on detentewhile moving the ideals of a people forward.
  • Teaching requires eminence in daily values, choices, and modeling! The work is hard; the rewards are ever reaching!
