Multidisciplinary Health Science Curriculum

CONTENT:

This site provides hundreds of interdisciplinary activities to encourage students to develop positive habits, which will enhance the quality of their lives as they age. It was developed by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with funding from a Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) from the National Center for Research Resources.

SITE DESIGN:

The curriculum units are listed in the left side menu as well as in the main area of the page. A left side navigation menu is available for moving among the main areas of the site: curriculum, teacher resources, student resources, newsletters and publications, and the search tool.

 

REVIEW:
This curriculum provides hundreds of interdisciplinary activities that focus on fostering critical thinking skills and practicing lifelong decision making. The lessons can be easily integrated into the existing curriculum and can be adapted and enhanced according to subject matter. Unit topics include blood, bones, the brain, cardiovascular system, diabetes, mobility, health careers, hearing, nutrition, obesity, oral health, the pulmonary system, sleep issues, vision, and more. The teacher resource section includes PowerPoint presentations, rubric/evaluation information, teacher adaptations, concept maps, and links to educational standards and related Web sites. Additionally, the student resources include a Flash animation about the anatomy of breathing, an interactive research graphic organizer, and more.
