Five Tech Tools to Help With Flipping Your Classroom

Many educators are experimenting with flipped classrooms, where their students listen to lectures at home and do homework or other assignments in the classroom. The transition to a new instructional model can be challenging for both teachers and students. Learn more about best practices for flipping and some of the evidence for its effectiveness.

One thing that's clear is that in a flipped classroom model, technology is key. With that in mind, here are some recommended "flipping" tools available on the Web:

  1. Edmodo:  With Edmodo, students can create discussions online, run polls and ask classmates questions. Kids also can learn at their their own pace.
  2. BrainPOPThis site contains hundreds of pieces of animated, curriculum-based content that support students and teachers. Here, educators can have their students watch videos outside of the classroom. They also can use the platform as a supplemental resource for students who are struggling with a particular subject.
  3. Screencast:  Students can share what they have learned with one another, ask questions, submit homework and more. Teachers can also offer feedback on student discussions and homework questions. On Screencast, students control how they learn and the pace at which they learn.
  4. Explain Everything:  With this great presentation tool, teachers can add text, pictures, videos or drawings to a blank board space. Record your voice over text, photos or other slides and share with students for free via email.
  5. Panopto:  Easily record a class lecture, PowerPoint presentation or screen. Students can search lectures by keyword, take notes and pause lectures at any time.
