Content: This site offers articles, essays for students, discussion questions, teaching tips, writing ideas, poets’ biographies and much more.
Design: Professional and clean best describe the look of the Poetry Foundation site. Soft, neutral colors serve as a non-distracting background, and colorful photographs and historical images blend well to create a visually engaging interface. Visitors can easily access all important areas of the site through a variety of navigation options, none more than two clicks away.
Review: The Poetry Foundation, publisher of Poetry magazine, is an independent literary organization committed to a vigorous presence for poetry in our culture. The group has become more active in the primary and secondary education markets, and this site a direct result of that initiative.
The Poetry Foundation has created a fairly comprehensive online resource. Students and teachers will find content including lesson plans, professional development articles, poet biographies and more—all deigned to boost student achievement. Educators can strengthen their instructional repertoires with best practices for teaching the often-tricky particulars of poetry genres.
Bottom Line: For teachers who cover poetry in class, the Poetry Foundation’s site is a must-see.
