Content: This is the educational wing of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). The site is geared toward teachers but also provides plenty of content for students.
Design: The NOAA gets high marks for a design that successfully toes the line between business and fun. The look is light, and at the same time, maintains the structured feel of an academic lesson.
The site’s layout is very easy to follow. Navigation bars and content blocks appear in logical areas with links to popular resources.
Review: Far too often, especially with government Web sites, the content is either good-quality and sparse, or lower-quality and plentiful. Thankfully, the NOAA provides a ton of material that is all excellent. The lesson plan library alone touches on the subjects of chemistry, geography, Earth science, math, life science and more.
Beyond lesson plans, the NOAA offers teachers an entire area dedicated to professional development. These materials were created in partnership with the National Science Teachers Association.
Bottom Line: The NOAA covers so many subjects that there are precious few teachers who wouldn’t benefit from a visit to this site.
