Site Review: MedTropolis

Site URL:  MedTropolis.com

Content:  This site bills itself as a health information webspace designed to educate and entertain kids and adults alike.

MedtropolisDesign:  While it looks professional, MedTropolis’ design leaves a lot to be desired. Ample use of stock photography and a fairly bland design bring to mind a templated site built for a local doctor’s office.

Looks notwithstanding, the site works well. The simple navigation directs users to specific areas of the site, and everything seems to function properly.

Review:  The site falls a bit short of its stated mission of entertaining users, as there is little here that qualifies as entertainment. Additionally, features such as the Virtual Body—whose name suggests an immersive, interactive anatomical model—may elicit yawns from students.

Where MedTropolis excels, however, is its educational content. Everything here has a solid base in science and is backed up with ample links to reputable medical sites. The content is also nearly endless. Browsing through the Procedures area of the site can easily eat up hours of time as users read up on all the ways in which medicine can repair the human body.

Bottom Line:  It may not be much to look at, but MedTropolis certainly shines in terms of content.
